Located in the Lapa area, the Dr. Mário Soares Urban Park represents a new green hub in Porto, with around 17,000 m² of public space.
Inaugurated in December 2024, the park pays tribute to Mário Soares with a bust designed by Lagoa Henriques.
With an ecological and landscape-based approach, this park includes pedestrian pathways, wooded areas, lakes, and the rehabilitation of the Ribeira do Vilar section, previously channelled underground.
A water retention basin and a small pond with native aquatic species were also created, as part of the plan to increase urban biodiversity and improve water quality.
In addition to its environmental value, the park offers privileged panoramic views of the city and serves as a space for contemplation and urban leisure.
With this park, Porto reinforces its commitment to nature-based solutions in urban areas, promoting well-being, landscape enhancement, and the aesthetic and ecological renewal of public space.
