Depósito de Materiais da Fábrica das Devesas (old ceramics warehouse)
Monuments
The building was constructed from 1899 to 1901, by initiative of António de Almeida Costa, the founder of the Devesas Ceramics Factory, and served as Porto’s warehouse and showroom for the ceramic materials produced at the factory in Vila Nova de Gaia. Its originality is based on a combination of smooth and relief-pattern tiles decorating its entire main façade and the façade on Rua da Conceição. Another distinctive characteristic accentuating the building’s neo-Islamic character is revealed by the horseshoe-shaped windows and the platband with ceramic merlons interwoven with ceramic vases.
