S. Miguel-O-Anjo Beacon-Chapel
Monuments
This square-shaped beacon was built in 1527 by order of D. Miguel da Silva, prebendary of the Santo Tirso monastery who owned the S. João da Foz estate, being therefore one of the oldest in Europe.
The inscription on the southern wall mentions that the priest “sold some of his own fields, in order to use the funds to keep a bonfire burning perpetually on the tower.”
