Carneiro Beach
Beaches
“Praia do Carneiro”, located in the city of Porto, is a city beach. Bordered to the south by “Molhe de Felgueiras” (Felgueiras Breakwater), this beach has a long stretch of fine sand. In the 19th century, it was one of the most frequented bathing areas, together with Ingleses Beach. Its name dates back to the time when shepherds settled near the coast, where there was abundant grazing for their flocks. According to popular belief, one of the rams, which used to graze in the vicinity of this beach, got lost from the rest and became immortalised on top of the “Chalé Suíço” (a romantic-style kiosk located on Passeio Alegre).
