Luz Beach
Beaches
The Luz beach holds both a Blue Flag and a Golden Beach award. The beach is formed by a small area of sand surrounded by rocks. During low tide it is possible to see two pontoons from the 19th century baths. The beach’s name (Light) comes from its proximity to Rua Senhora da Luz, where there was once a chapel dedicated to the mother of God, as Our Lady of the Light. At a later date a lighthouse and fort were built next to the chapel, on Monte da Luz. From here, the view stretches from the Douro sandbar all the way to Espinho.
