Created by Marques da Silva, Maria José Marques da Silva, Henrique Moreira, Sousa Caldas and Alves de Sousa, this monument was inaugurated in 1951.
It is a historical expression of sculptural architecture of magnificent splendour. It's made up of an obelisk and several other sculptures with the symbolic figures of the Eagle (representing Napoleon's army) and of the Lion (allusive to the invincible mind of the Portuguese people).
