Porto Military Museum
Museums & Thematic Centres
In 1920, recalling the first centenary of the “Liberal Revolution of 1820”, an exhibition was held at Teatro São João, consisting of pieces from the Joaquim Vitorino Ribeiro collection.
In its exhibitions the museum presents collections of military equipment and armament from the 16th to the 20th centuries, which mainly relate to events that took place in Porto and recall episodes of the French Invasions, the Liberal Wars, or the attempt to establish the Republic on 31 January 1891. The First World War and the Colonial War are other grounds of interest, on display.
The highlight is the large collection of miniature soldiers, from various European factories, which delight the visitors.
The museum has a thematic library where the public can consult its books.
