Church of Senhora da Conceição
Religious temples
Built between 1938 and 1947 and designed by the Benedictine monk Paul Bellot, it has a monumental granite facade. Of note are a set of stained glass windows decorated with the life of Christ and Mary Magdalen. The interior is influenced by Roman basilicas and Moorish and Gothic art. The artist was inspired by Byzantine and Arab art. In the high choir stands the grand 39-pipe organ by Orgelbau Georges Heintz. Flanking the façade are two towers, the largest of which is fifty meters tall and the highest viewing point in the city. Inside is a carillon consisting of 18 bells.
