Catarina Santos Cunha
Born in Porto, Maria Elisa Vale began her education at Soares dos Reis Secondary School, before moving on to the Fine Arts. Passionate about nature and organic forms, textures, and the color of threads, the artist works with stone, particularly marble and limestone, natural fibers such as Portuguese wool or linen, and paper, creating three 100% handmade artistic areas - sculpture, textiles, and paper. Her concern for sustainability is also reflected in her materials, which come from waste and are recycled. It is in the authenticity of the city of Porto that Maria Elisa Vale gives free rein to creative liberty, using stone, paper, and textiles in her studio. From the specificity of choosing a stone or a simple thread of Portuguese wool that Elisa produces, creation emerges from a unique will to be, manual, transforming the natural into art.
