Célia Esteves, originally from Viana do Castelo, nurtured her passion for craftsmanship, inspired by the embroidery and loom her mother had at home. At 16, she moved to Porto to pursue her education and master’s degree in Drawing and Print Techniques at ESAP. Working at the University of Fine Arts, she realised her fascination with the hands-on aspect of the creative process. She initiated the GUR project, where she designs rugs that merge tradition with modernity. She incorporates high-quality textile waste into her rugs, particularly cotton. GUR celebrates over a decade of success, based on the contemporary interpretation of traditional techniques.
