Until it melts in the mouth and gives comfort to the soul, chocolate endures a long process. It all starts as a fragile flower on a tree trunk in a remote part of the world. It follows a method created 5,000 years ago, which crossed different civilizations and continents, continuing to be a complex method even today. With the Chocolate Story, WOW intends to explain what chocolate is (much more than a candy!), where it comes from, and how it is made. From cocoa plantations to chocolate manufacturing processes, everything will be demonstrated step by step in twelve different stages.
The first journey covers the origins of chocolate—coming from among the oldest civilizations in Central America where cocoa holds a sacred role. Then visitors get to follow the path of chocolate from America to Europe, moving from liquid cocoa to chocolate bars as we know it today.
Every piece and type of chocolate is another world to discover as there is as much depth in a chocolate square as in a glass of wine, a cup of tea or coffee. True experts know how to differentiate the personality of chocolate, just like wine, which all depends on the terroir, variety, harvest, and processing process. Therefore, in The Chocolate Story, visitors receive the opportunity to understand all components of chocolate. The particulars of the fruit and plant, their differences and specifications depending on where they come from, and how chocolate differs within all these variables are explored.
At WOW, there will be a real chocolate factory and all visitors to The Chocolate Story will have the privilege of watching, in real time, the processes of the transformation of cocoa seeds into chocolate. The visit does not end without the opportunity to taste one of the chocolates. For those who want to prolong the tasting, there is also a cafeteria and a chocolate shop.
This is an enriching experience, perfect for all ages, especially families and young children. The Chocolate Story will also hold workshops and themed birthday parties that combines learning and fun, all inside the museum.
