Roads and squares
It was opened in 1784 to increase the lenght of an old road, by order of João de Almada e Mello. Bordering with the secular Collegiate of Cedofeita, it turned into an important residential zone. Nowadays it is one of the city´s main commercial areas. The street is flanked with buildings constructed from the 17th to the 20th centuries. During the siege of Porto, the regent D. Pedro made his headquarters in the building at the number 395, after the bombardment of the zone of the Carrancas Palace.
