Remarkable building with visible Neopaladian traits. It has English influence, something which was uncommon in nineteenth century Porto architecture and which is marked by French fine arts.
English made tiles cover the building. They were produced at Minton, Hollings & Company, from Stoke-on-Trent.
The Porto City Council bought the property from its heirs in 1966 for the Music conservatory, which operated from here from 1975 to 2008.
In the former recovered stables, the City Council began, in 1986, to install the reserves of the municipal museums and prepared a strategic concept which led to the creation, in Pinto Leite Palace, of one of the multi-cultural houses. It is currently being used as an exhibition centre.
Visitors are welcome with or without appointment and may visit the building and the gardens. There is as well the possibility of space rental for exhibitions, conferences, workshops, photographic sessions, fashion events, theme parties, upon payment of current Municipal rates. Lending Regulations for Municipal Venues can be consulted at the City Council’s website.
