Carregal Garden

Carregal Garden

Gardens and Parks
Designed in 1897, it is considered by some the last Romantic Garden in Porto with 18th-century features, with highlight to the twisting lake in the centre, crossed by a bridge, surrounded by leafy trees. We can distinguish the resinous trees that shape an atmosphere of mountain forests, and even the cedars, sequoias and araucarias. Special note should be given to the sculpture of the doctor, professor, researcher and artist Abel Salazar, by the sculptor Helder de Carvalho.

Located close to the Hospital de St. António, here one can appreciate the quietness offered by its romantic layout and dense vegetation. It has several period plants that bloom in profusion.

Fun fact: In the past, there was a century-old giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum), whose importance was recognized by all, in such a way that it gave rise to a set of performative and temporary interventions, entitled "Soft Monuments".
