The Synagogue Kadoorie Mekor Haim (Porto) is only open for religious ceremonies and the normal community activities of its members.
The Tourism Department of the Porto Jewish Community has as goal to offer the visitors of the Synagogue a guided tour of this Jewish temple, the largest of the Iberian Peninsula. Besides knowing the symbolic and architectonic significance of this Synagogue, visitors will also get to know Judaism from a religious, cultural and historical point of view. They will get to know as well the history of the Community (creation, 2nd World War, present days) and of its founder – Captain Barros Basto (his life and work, the rescue of secret Jews, his eviction from the army, his rehabilitation).
The Porto Synagogue is only open for religious ceremonies and community activities of its members. If you are a Jewish tourist and wish to participate in the ceremonies, please send an email to tourism@comunidade-israelita-porto.org, with your identification. The ceremonies take place on Fridays evenings and Saturday mornings, as well as on Jewish holidays.
