Mátria - An opera that talks about us
It is an opera sung in Portuguese and inspired by the work of Miguel Torga. It was created in Trás-os-Montes and, after its premiere - in December 2021 - sold out three shows at Teatro de Vila Real’s Grande Auditório and the show on February 20th at Teatro Municipal de Bragança is already sold out at the box office, the opera “Mátria” arrives at Coliseu Porto Ageas, on 4 March 2022.
Almost everything seems unlikely in this project: starting with the 10 years it took to get to the stage, due to the fact that it is an opera without sets where the entire scenic environment is created by the elements of the two participating choirs (one of them from the community), and because it is also an opera whose libretto, despite being original, is entirely written in the words of Miguel Torga, taken from different texts of “Contos” and “Novos Contos da Montanha”.
“Mátria” has the participation of 7 professional soloists, a community choir, a choir with professional musicians, and an orchestra created for this project.
