Tradições Populares
Event
The music becomes more realistic when it stems from the impressions left by the immense authenticity of popular art, which encompasses everything. At least that was what Béla Bartók thought and wrote, finding his artistic path through an immersion in traditional Hungarian music. The set of short Hungarian Peasant Songs that opens this programme is one of the admirable fruits resulting from the ethnographic collections he used as a source for countless compositions. Years later, his compatriot Ligeti followed his footsteps: the Romanian Concerto became a reflection of his deep love for Romanian folk music and traditions. The other works featured in this concert followed different paths, from which we can highlight the emotional dimension and complexity of Samuel Barber's Second Essay, one of the most popular works by this famous North American composer. The concert will be directed by Nuno Coelho, a conductor from Porto with a burgeoning international career since winning the Cadaqués International Competition, in 2017.
