Bruno Nogueira and Manuela Azevedo bring “Deixem o Pimba em Paz” to the Super Bock Arena – Pavilhão Rosa Mota on November 30th. The promise is that we all want to celebrate, laugh and celebrate together.
Premiered in 2013, “Deixem o Pimba em Paz” is one of those rare cases of success with a long road travelled – the history of tours and performances speaks for itself. In the atypical year of 2020, it was the show chosen to mark the reopening of the performance venues, after two and a half months of lockdown and the sector’s shutdown, in two unique concerts in Campo Pequeno, which sold out in just 11 minutes.
“It is no coincidence that at a party at Quinta do Lago, at the first chords of a song by Quim Barreiros, there will be a stampede of people running onto the dance floor and singing the chorus in a happy, loud voice. The same will happen if, in the middle of a barbecue in Massamá, someone takes a risk with the same song. Perhaps there will be less people, but the happy, loud voice that sings the chorus will have the same power.
There is also something else that narrows the Quinta do Lago-Massamá axis: none of the inhabitants of those social regions know much more than the chorus. And it's also a pity, because the best rarely comes in the chorus. Yet there are few subjects that so closely link people with such different tastes. The “pimba” (Portuguese popular music) universe has always fascinated me. All of it, with its lyrics, music, clothes, choreographies, etc.
This show sets out to breathe new life into these songs, bringing together musicians who made jazz and pop arrangements where they were unlikely to be found. Thus, Manuela Azevedo (lead singer of Clã) appears, so that together we can give voice to these themes. And we are joined by songs by Quim Barreiros, Ágata, Marante and Marco Paulo, among others.
