81st anniversary of Coliseu
Event
On December 19th, Coliseu celebrates its 81st anniversary, with various free-entry events. Come celebrate with us!
The programme begins at 5 pm with a guided tour, led by the chairwoman of the Coliseu, Mónica Guerreiro, which will pass through a secret area of the Coliseu: the Wine Cellar.
At 6 pm, at Sala Ático, the first performance of the new Orquestra do Orquestra Jardim Passos Manuel takes place. The Orchestra used to perform in the space with the same name, which existed on the site where the Coliseum stands today. Opened in 1908, it was a landmark in Porto's cultural and bohemian life. However, in 1938, the Salão Jardim Passos Manuel was deactivated to start the construction of the Coliseu building, which would open three years later, on 19 December 1941.
At 6:45 pm, the announcement and award ceremony of the winner of the first edition of the Prémio Jovens Artistas Coliseu Porto Ageas, in the circus arts category, will take at Sala Principal.
The music follows. First, with the release of the three soundtracks of Circo do Coliseu 2020-2021-2022. Over the past three years, we have challenged Portuguese composers to create an original soundtrack and arrangements for the Circus shows presented by the Coliseu, which were then performed live in all sessions.
An anniversary day cannot end without singing happy birthday to the Coliseu. We have invited Canto Nono, a vocal octet whose artistic direction belonged, for two decades, to José Mário Branco, for a special performance.
