Exactamente Antunes
Event
Have you noticed my eyes? Look at my eyes, they are not mine, they are the eyes from our century. The eyes that pierce through everything, it’s about to begin. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s about to begin!
Almada Negreiros – “Conferência n.º 1”
“We are from a century that does not make up words. Words have already been made up. We are from a century that again makes up the words that have already been made up.” With Exatamente Antunes, it was as if Jacinto Lucas Pires - instigated by Nuno Carinhas - responded to Almada Negreiros' appeal, lead him astray Nome de Guerra to the scene. A piece of prodigious freshness and ingenuous, the novel sets us on the initiation route (or merry-go-round) of Antunes, a contryman shaken by the chance of luck in the big city, which, between the night club and the hotel room, accumulates enough experience to conclude that… no know-how comes from the accumulation of experience. Sharing with Almada the pleasure of paradoxes and the recreational reinvention of language, Nuno Carinhas took on, as a set designer and costume designer, the role of three-dimensioning this “drawing masterpiece”, as David Mourão-Ferreira called it. And he shared the staging with Cristina Carvalhal, making the empty stage of São João not only the bohemian metropolis or the phantasmal village of Antunes, but also (and above all) the inside of a head.
