‘Living’ exhibition of 100 thousand tulips

There is a living exhibition of tulips scattered throughout the city's many gardens and squares, which are beginning to bloom, these days.

In Jardim Marques de Oliveira, known as the garden of S. Lázaro and the oldest in Porto, for example, more than eight varieties are planted, arranged around the main lake and surrounding areas, in a harmonious combination of colours.

Only in the 2018/2019 season, about 100,000 tulips of eight varieties and several colours (various shades of pink, red, yellow, and gold) were produced by bulbs in the Municipal Nursery. Some of the bulbs used were imported from the Netherlands and were cold treated at the original location for a better adaptation to the final location and were put into flowerpots at the Nursery.

This is an exhibition of the various flower shows of ephemeral character that Porto City Hall has been recreating throughout the year, according to the season and seasonality of the species.

In addition to Jardim Marques de Oliveira, the tulips provide colour to the gardens of Passeio Alegre and Praça Francisco Sá Carneiro (known as Praça Velasquez), the planters of Rua do Infante, the garden of the car park of Trindade, Praça da Trindade and to the streets of Gonçalo Cristóvão and Sá da Bandeira.
