The city opens the official commemorations of the 200th anniversary of the Revolução Liberal (Liberal Revolution) next February 20th, with a series of free access activities to reminisce - and even to explain to the children - what happened in Porto on 24 August 1820 and the repercussions of what happened would have on the History of Portugal.


The celebrations programme, which was presented in detail a month ago, has the partnership of several entities and will open to the city a wide range of initiatives over several months, from exhibitions and debates to concerts and movie screenings, including visits, book launches and other events, in order to summon the critical and civic intervention of citizens in the context of contemporaneity.


Counting on the novelist, essayist and politician Pedro Baptista as chief steward, coordinating a team with several sectorial stewards, the celebrations will continue until December and thus highlighting different areas that episode which, two centuries ago, would enable the establishment of the Junta Provisional do Governo Supremo do Reino, leading the revolution from Porto to win over the entire country and helping to found Modern Portugal.
