Porto PianoFest has adapted to hold the 5th edition of the festival live on the Internet, between August 1st and 8th. The initiative will feature more than 70 professional musicians and two physical concerts in the city.


After crossing the Atlantic Ocean to perform a concert in New York last February, the event has adapted to the current scenario by holding an online edition, during the first week of August, which will feature live streaming performances by a vast cast of professional pianists from Europe and the United States of America. Among the novelties, we highlight the daily release of ten music videos on the Porto PianoFest website.


"We have invited about 70 pianists to be with us and to send us a recording purposely made for this festival, of something that would represent them as musicians", explained the director of the festival, Nuno Marques, quoted by the news agency Lusa.


With the possibility of attracting audiences from all over the world, the initiative is free and will be, according to pianist Nuno Marques, "a way of mobilising artists and creating a breath of fresh air".


Besides the videos available, the 2nd and 3rd of August will have live concert broadcast from Chicago and New York, followed on the August 4th by a live conference featurinf maestro Oscar Colomina i Bosch, from Madrid, about orchestral conducting and his musical experience, which led him to become the director of the prestigious Reina Sofia School of Music.


On August 7th, the Rectory of the University of Porto will host the physical concert by young talents, featuring two young pianists from the city, will have a live audience of about 20 to 30 people.


Finally, the closing of the festival is set for August 8th, Saturday, with a live concert in Vila Nova de Gaia, at the World of Wine, which is scheduled to open until August.


The two physical concerts held in Porto, and has adapted to respect the current contingencies and measures imposed, will also be streamed on the Internet, from New York, with the hosts of Nuno Marques and the vice-director, Mariel Mayz, American pianist and composer.


Founded in 2016, Porto PianoFest is an international piano festival, based in the city of Porto, which brings together, in masterclasses and concerts open to the public, renowned pianists and young music talents.
