Azores Airlines announced that it will resume the direct flights between Porto and the island of Terceira, with a weekly flight starting on September 16th, returning to operate a route suspended since March due to the pandemic situation.

In an information note, the subsidiary company of SATA Group explains that the restart of this route "results from the gradual process of resuming the carrier's flights".

"The airline will provide one flight per week, to be carried out on Wednesday, between 16 September and 21 October (IATA 2020 summer schedule), with the carrier operating on Thursday, from October 29th and throughout the IATA 2020/2021 winter season", Azores Airlines also explains.

With the resumption of this air operation, the Azores Airlines seeks to "contribute to the gradual stabilization of passenger flows between the different gateways of the Azores archipelago and the main national source markets".

The return of the Porto-Terceira direct connection will contribute to the continued increase in demand at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport.

According to the data for July of the monthly control of air traffic, from Autoridade Nacional da Aviação Civil (ANAC), a total of 371,094 passengers passed through Porto Airport this month, an increase of 392.2% compared to June.
