The seventh edition of Festival Internacional de Cinema Infantil e Juvenil do Porto [International Children's and Youth Film Festival of Porto] starts today and runs until January 29th in various venues across the city, with most of the screenings taking place at the renovated Batalha Centro de Cinema. The programme includes a total of 55 films from 18 countries.

Among the various themes covered, emphasis is placed on the place of nature and animals, climate change, abortion or family relationships in situations of poverty.

With the sea as its central theme and strengthening the event's bond with the city and its stories, the festival presents a special film programme developed in partnership with FILMar project, as well as the “Marés” film-concert, where films about Porto will have music played live by The Banksy's (Vítor Rua and Ilda Teresa de Castro).

The seventh edition of IndieJúnior Porto will feature four Portuguese films, which will be accompanied by conversations between the filmmakers and the audiences. The following films will be screened in different sections: “Ice Merchants” by João Gonzalez, “O Homem do Lixo” by Laura Gonçalves, “O Casaco Rosa” by Mónica Santos, and “O Conto da Raposa” by Alexandra Allen.

Also noteworthy is the special focus on Norwegian cinema, which will have Casa das Artes as its main venue, and the choice of digital influencer and DJ Peter Castro for the “O Meu Primeiro Filme” [My first movie] section: “Marie Antoinette” by Sofia Coppola.

Held in another of the city’s new venues, Sala Novo Ático at Coliseu Porto Ageas, IndieJúnior 2023 will once again feature the baby on lap movie sessions for children aged under 30 months, and will also include a workshop for families with children aged 1 and 2 years old, where they will play with water, colour, sound and other sensory elements.

A programme that, even outside the cinema, wants to be a space for discovering and exchanging experiences, as shown in the debate around how cinema and art can be important tools for mourning, on January 26th, at 11 am, at Casa Comum - Rectory of the University of Porto, the workshop “Animação de Recortes” [Cut-out animation], which will enable to understand and experience one of the image animation processes, on January 29th, 10:30 am, at the Soares dos Reis National Museum; or the workshop “Vamos Imaginar uma Cidade Sustentável?” [Let's Imagine a More Sustainable City?], where the flora of the Botanical Garden serves as a starting point for a playful game around the natural life of cities – will be held on January 26th, at 2 pm and 6 pm, at Galeria da Biodiversidade - Centro Ciência Viva.
