Trengo – Festival de Circo do Porto (Porto Circus Festival) is back, with the new edition held from 5 to 10 July. This year, the festival is divided into six venues: the already usual Parque do Covelo and Teatro Rivoli, which are joined by the Coliseu Porto Ageas and O Lugar. Trengo will also pass by Praça de D. João I and Bairro Pinheiro Torres.

The seventh edition of Trengo – Festival de Circo do Porto starts on July 5th and runs until July 10th, with 12 shows and 25 performances, in a programme designed for the whole family in mind.

The festival is back with several new novelties, starting with two new venues: Coliseu Porto Ageas and O Lugar, by the company Palmilha Dentada, which join Rivoli . Municipal Theatre as venues for the indoor performances of the festival and subject to tickets.

The remaining programme has free entry and is concentrated in Covelo Park, as well as in Praça de D. João I and Bairro Pinheiro Torres.

Another great novelty of this edition is its own creation “O Silêncio do Corpo”, directed by João Paulo Santos and produced by Erva Daninha. The show is a symbol of the diversity of contemporary circus, representing the various nationalities and the union of efforts, in a challenge of overcoming resistance.

The latest novelty of the festival is the international partnership with the “solo but not alone” platform, which aims to promote Italian circus artists.

Parque do Covelo

Parque do Covelo hosts most of Trengo's performances and all sessions have free entry.

On the first of the six days of the festival, on July 5th, “Tangle” will take the stage at 6:30 pm. The show, by the artist Francesca Mari, repeats the next day at the same time. On the 5th, at 7 pm, the new creation of the company Circo Caótico will take place, “Raiz”, an acrobatic duet that will connect the audience to the landscape of this park. The second performance of the show takes place on the 7th, at 6:30 pm.

Hêtre” by the company Libertivore, and “Passages” by Alice Rende, are the two French creations that are part of the programme. The two shows, where the central figure is the woman, take the stage on July 9th and 10th, at 4 pm and 5 pm, respectively.

O Silêncio do Corpo”, Trengo festival's own creation, takes place on 8, 9 and 10 July. On the first day, it is scheduled for 6:30 pm and on the following days it will start at 6 pm. The starting point of this new creation by João Paulo Santos and Erva Daninha explores the physical limit to tell what one sees /feels on the other side, where the mental supports us and enables us to reach a state that we did not know until then, revealing primary, intimate and universal emotions. The Chinese pole serves as a pretext for diving vertically into the depth of the being, reaching that limit, and going beyond it.

Trengo – Festival de Circo do Porto also presents "POI" by Guillem Vizcaíno, Spanish juggler and world freestyle champion of spinning tops. The shows take place on the 6th and 7th at 7 pm.

On July 10th, the last day of the festival, “Los viajes de Bowa”, also from Spain, takes us to Bairro Pinheiro Torres, in a partnership with Teatro do Frio and which is part of the Cultura em Expansão programme.

Rivoli and Coliseu

Teatro Rivoli presents, a Portuguese premiere, “Falaise”, a show by the French company Baro D’Evel with eight performers, a horse and several pigeons on stage. Performances take place on June 7th and 8th at 7:30 pm. Tickets can be purchased online and at Teatro Municipal do Porto’s ticket offices.

Rui Paixão will perform at Coliseu Porto Ageas in a double session, at 7 pm and 9:30 pm, on June 6th, with “Albano”, one of his recent creations. The actor will also hold on July 4th and 5th the training session “Eis um urso. Agora devem fazê-lo rir.”, aimed at students and professionals in the performing arts.

Trengo – Festival de Circo do Porto is an initiative of the Erva Daninha company and has the support of the Portuguese Republic – Culture/ Direção-Geral das Artes.
