The Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art and Serralves Park is hosting until 26 February 2023 a major exhibition entitled Chegar sem partir [Arriving without leaving], spanning more than three decades of activity by the sculptor Rui Chafes.

The exhibition extends “from the interior of the building to the museum grounds, which serve as an inspired setting for a reflection upon the sheer diversity of his sculptural practice”, says the organiser. The exhibition was curated by Philippe Vergne and Inês Grosso and was planned in close dialogue with the artist.

Rui Chafes (Lisbon, 1966) is described by the organiser as “one of today’s most relevant sculptors”. Chafes received in 2015 the Pessoa Award, and collaborated with Porto City Hall in several cultural projects, such as the Public Art Programme. He is the author of a sculpture that can be seen on the facade of the building of MMIPO - Museu e Igreja da Misericórdia do Porto, on Rua das Flores, called O Meu Sangue é o Vosso Sangue [My Blood is Your Blood].
