More than seven million people have already gone to Casa da Música in its nearly 15 years, among spectators and visitors, according to official figures of the institution quoted by Lusa news agency.

Between 2006 and 2019, the building designed by the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and opened on 15 April 2005 registered a total of 7,249,846 million people who entered it.

Spaniards, English, French and Brazilians make up the majority of foreigners visiting the Casa who were more than half of last year's total public. "Non-resident public have had sustainable growth over the years, representing about 60% of the guided tours public and 15% of concert spectators," a source from Casa da Música told Lusa.

Built to be part of the Porto European Capital of Culture in 2001, Casa da Música was inaugurated in 2005, but the works did not finish until May 2006, year it started recording the number of people who entered it and during which had 344,405 visitors and spectators.

Visitor growth remained relatively sustained until 2019, with the exception of 2012 (468,631), when there was a loss of 58,995 visitors compared to 2011 (527,626), as a consequence of the programme reduction when it was a year of Government’s budget cuts.

Visitor growth returned in 2013, surpassing half a million for the first time (512,140), and continued to increase in 2014 (548,895).

In 2015, there was a slight decrease of 23 thousand visitors (525 thousand visitors), a fact justified by Casa da Música with the reduction of the state subsidy by 13.5 million euros, as well as patronage contributions by 1.5 million euros between 2011 and 2015.

In 2019, the data indicate that there were 685 thousand visitors and spectators (nine thousand more visitors and spectators than in 2018), with room occupancy rate at around 80%, two points above 2018.
