Eduardo Viveiros de Castro says that for Brazilian indigenous people “the contradiction makes sense” and is one of the basic characteristics of Amerindian thought. Those in charge notice North American university students trapped in politically correct bubbles and advise them to travel around the world in order to be capable of contradiction. Somewhere one comes to the conclusion that the “healthy” media are those that do not only present one point of view, but several, preferably even contradictory ones. Carl Jung said that his language should be ambiguous and of double meaning because only then would it do justice to our psychic nature. Ernst Cassirer and his “logic of the illogical” might also have something to say about all this... Is an education for citizenship an education for contradiction? Education towards scare.
