Germany in Autumn
Event
In the autumn of 1977, the Federal Republic of Germany experienced the most serious political crisis since its foundation in 1951. The confrontation between the extreme left-wing groups and the state reached its climax: the Red Army Faction kidnapped Hans-Martin Schleyer and hijacked two planes to obtain the release of its members. The State's response was a brutal repression, with the support of public opinion and the dubious suicide of the leaders of the Red Army Faction, in a maximum security prison. A group of filmmakers, including Alexander Kluge, Rainer W. Fassbinder and Edgar Reitz, decided to make a film in episodes about this crisis and its deeper meanings. (Cinemateca Portuguesa)
