Regatta of São João

On June 24th, the famous Rabelo Boats Regatta takes place, where the picturesque boats that adorn the Douro River everyday sail from Foz to D. Luís Bridge, fighting for first place!
An initiative organised by Confraria do Vinho do Porto, which promotes Port Wine. With their sails raised and bearing the name of the great brands of Port Wine, the boats go upstream. In the end, the awards are handed out in front of Casa Sandeman.
Rabelo boats are traditional vessels that, in the past, carried the barrels of Port Wine from the Alto Douro, where the vineyards are located, to Vila Nova de Gaia, where it was stored and then sold from Porto to the whole world.
