Joseph Haydn enjoyed immense success on his European tours: Symphony n.º 83 “La Poule” is part of the set of Parisian symphonies, the first he composed after a lifetime of service in Eszterháza, so named by the audience of the premiere for its vivid theme reminiscent of the roaming of a chicken. Also written for Paris, on one of Mozart's tours, the “Sinfonia Concertante K. 364” fits into a genre that fuses the textures of the symphony and the concerto, thus giving space to the orchestra's soloists. The overture of the opera “The Marriage of Figaro” is perhaps one of Mozart’s best known and most exciting orchestral pieces, where he manages to express the madness and excitement of Beaumarchais-Da Ponte's folle journée, one of the most memorable pages in the history of music. Despite being written in the 20th century, Poulenc's “Sinfonietta” is a revisitation of the classical style of Haydn and Mozart.
