John Lencastre’s Communion 3
Event
It is the holistic freedom of the classic jazz trio that is elevated here, according to the impressionist restlessness of João Lencastre – drummer and composer with two decades of commitment to music on stages all over the world. With a 15-year history, his project Communion has already recruited instrumentalists such as Bill Carrothers, David Binney or Thomas Morgan, and more recently Jacob Sacks and Eivind Opsvik – resulting in two albums released by Clean Feed and acclaimed by national and international critics. In this new incarnation of the trio, Lencastre meets the scrupulous geometric expression of the American bassist Drew Gress (who recorded with giants like Uri Caine, Dave Douglas, Marc Copland, John Abercrombie, Steve Lehman or Tim Berne) and with the exploratory agility of the Argentine pianist Leo Genovese (main presence in collectives led by Esperanza Spalding, Joe Lovano, Jack DeJohnette or Sara Serpa).
