Domingos na Casa do Cinema – Fahrenheit 451
Event
Truffaut's first film in colour unites the French director's sarcastic dark humour with the political allegory of Ray Bradbury's novel of the same name. In what was a dystopian vision of the future in the 1960s - and which the present has largely confirmed - everything is dominated by the audio-visual (the walls are giant television screens) and reading has become a rebellious act. All books are condemned to burn (451º Fahrenheit is the temperature at which a book burns), the protagonist being one of the members of the incineration brigades. To preserve literature against barbarism, several men and women dedicate themselves to memorising entire books, so that they can be saved from oblivion.
