A Mina
Event
Hotel Europa is a documentary theatre company that explores areas in which theatre, dance and performance art intersect. Its shows provide connections between the past and the present, addressing the current affairs of little-discussed topics and crossing historiographical research with testimonies, family narratives and interviews. “A Mina” [The mine] examines the history of a Portuguese town, São Pedro da Cova, haunted by the mining unit that for almost two centuries provided many families with their livelihoods. In 1970, the coal mines were deactivated and in 2001, they were used to store tons of toxic waste from the Siderurgia Nacional, an iron and steel company, part of that waste is still there. Drawing inspiration from close work with the community, in an intergenerational dialogue about the mining past and current environmental problems, “A Mina” triggers memories, times and questions that challenge us.
