The idea is simple – to involve and raise awareness among tourists for the good practices to adopt while visiting the city – now written in a manifest (attached). On World Day of Tourism, celebrated yesterday, and within the scope of "Vision of the Future for the Sustainability of Destination Porto", initiative, the municipality leaves some tips to those who visit us, regarding the night, accommodations and tours around the city.
Some tourists were surprised on Wednesday in Rua de Santa Catarina with the distribution of the manifest and a “Caixa de emoções do Porto” [Porto emotions box], containing the good practices, the adoption and signing of the commitment. The same thing happened on Rua das Flores, and at the arrivals space at Aeroporto Francisco Sá Carneiro, as a way of making travellers aware, as soon as they arrive, of the impact of their behaviour at the destination.
“It is important that tourists assume some responsibility. Understanding that, to have this welcoming city, we need everyone’s help”, highlighted the councilwoman for Tourism, who was present and interacted with some tourists on Rua de Santa Catarina.
“It is necessary that they respect the heritage, the accommodations they are in, do not make noise, use soft and sustainable mobility, have respect for the destination, so that everyone coexists well and that residents are pleased to have them in”, added Catarina Santos Cunha.
Buying and Supporting local commerce, tasting the gastronomy, enjoying the Port, but drinking in moderation, and paying attention to noise as not to disturb the residents are some of the recommendations in the manifest, which will, from now on, be available in all the city’s tourist units.
For the Tourism Councilwoman, this document represents a step forward in the "Visão de Futuro para a sustentabilidade do Destino Porto". “We have to balance this healthy coexistence among the visitors and residents, as much as possible” concluded Catarina Santos Cunha.
