Feira do Livro do Porto, which returns to the Gardens of Palácio de Cristal, between 28 August and 13 September, has chosen 68 entries representing more than 80 entities, including distributors, publishers, booksellers, second-hand bookshops, public or private entities, corresponding to a total of 120 stalls.

After the registration period has ended, the number of participants in the 2020 edition of the Book Fair is already known, which this year will see the space in Alameda das Tílias restricted to health requirements due to COVID-19.

In addition to the number of stands already revealed, which exceeds one hundred, the Municipality of Porto also unveils some novelties that can be expected from the great celebration of the book and the reading of the city. Based on the motto "Alegria para o fim do mundo", transcribed from Andreia C. Faria’s novel, the programme will have its main focus on appreciating the Portuguese language and poets, writers and artists, with special emphasis on those who work in or from the city. The learning of the pandemic experienced in recent months will also be carried over to the calendar of the literary event, which also promises to give strength to women voices and writing.

In this edition, the programme is developed by a vast team of the municipal company Ágora, to which the guest duo curators Anabela Mota Ribeiro and José Eduardo Agualusa join.

Highlight to the invitation to Maus Hábitos - Espaço de Intervenção Cultural which designed a Concertos de Bolso’s programme, one of the novelties of the 2020 edition, which in fact will have a strong sound component. The Concertos de Bolso outline a portrait of the musical panorama in the city, while showing a gesture of encouragement and incentive to bands and musicians of different genres and generations, weakened by the circumstances for these summer months and postponed tours.

In the new chapter of kicking-off the cultural life in the city, all necessary hygiene and distancing measures are ensured, which certainly will not inhibit the Book Fair from continuing to be a striking event for the city of Porto, where knowledge sharing is associated with moments of celebration and joy.

The complete programme with all the new features about Feira do Livro do Porto 2020, will be announced soon by the Municipality.
