What is ignited by a fuse created out of a James Brown’s song, Kafka’s The Metamorphosis, Gustavia (2008), the burlesque duo of La Ribot and Mathilde Monnier, and the words of Tiago Rodrigues? The answer is Please please please (2019), the performance that joined together the Spanish-Swiss and French choreographers with the Portuguese director in a reflection on the normative power’s opposition to minority bodies and their resistance(s) to it. For all three, metamorphosis is the most effective response to domination and dance is the means to make it real. On stage, the two dancer-choreographers bring to life a gallery of characters confronted with authority and catastrophe, inhabiting a series of short stories, written by Tiago Rodrigues, that touch both the absurd, fantasy and dystopia. These two women speak to their sons and daughters, in a dialogue about the world to come. Moving between the discursive and the performative, Please please please is an urgent appeal addressed to future generations.
