easyJet's investment in the city of Porto remains solid and the low cost airline has announced that it will launch the direct route Porto-Berlin on March 29th, as well as strengthen by 15% the connections from Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport to various destinations, especially the summer routes. In the case of Ibiza, the strengthening also benefits the shoulder season.
The new connection to Berlin will be made from "Sá Carneiro" to Schoenefeld Airport (SXF), which was the main airport in East Germany, and the inaugural trip is scheduled to leave the German city at 6:10 am (local time) on March 29th and arrival at 8:35 am. Departure from Porto will take place at 9:10 am (arrival at 1:35 pm) and the operation has four weekly flights (Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Sunday) operated by Airbus 319 until October 24th.
This will be the 19th easyJet route to serve Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport and the director of the airline for Portugal, José Lopes, affirmed the airline's satisfaction in strengthening "the commitment" with Porto.
In this strategy, the director also announced the strengthening of other operations based here during the high season, stating that, among the most sought-after routes from Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, the destination Ibiza will have the most expanded capacity, with an increase 153% as the strengthening will not be limited to summer and will also be maintained in the shoulder season.
But there are other substantial increases, such as Zurich (176%), Luxembourg (47%) and Funchal (more than 40%). Regarding this last operation, the director of easyJet for Portugal justified in a statement the investment in increasing the capacity because he is "sure that we will overcome all setbacks" and guarantees that "we will continue together with the people who give us their preference on this journey that we started in 2008".
The destination Funchal is one of those for which the airline will start operating six flights a week from Porto.
"We increased our capacity by 15% of the options from Porto for the summer of 2020, compared to what we had available in 2019. We will keep this strengthening because we know that summer is the preferred season of the Portuguese for their getaways and easyJet operates some of the favourite destinations for the summer", points out the company director, whose operational base at Porto Airport was established in 2015 and thus remains a strategic bet for the company.
