Several companies from Porto have joined the Rede Portuguesa de Turismo Industrial [Portuguese Network of Industrial Tourism]. The new membership agreements were signed last Monday, the 30th, at the Oliva Creative Factory, in São João da Madeira, during the congress of the ERIH - European Route of Industrial Heritage.

The promotion of the Rede Portuguesa de Turismo Industrial’s programme, coordinated by Turismo de Portugal and by the Regional Authority of Turismo do Porto e Norte, in conjunction with the Municipality of Porto and the partners involved, includes various initiatives such as, for example, making a dynamic digital guide and holding the Programa da Semana “À descoberta do Turismo Industrial” [Discovering Industrial Tourism]”, taking place during the Easter school holidays, and which aims to contribute to promoting the region's tourist attractiveness.

The Municipality of Porto was represented by the director of the Municipal Department of Tourism and Internationalisation, Fátima Santos, and was attended by some of the new partners from Porto, who officially joined this network, namely: Alcino Silversmith Since 1902, Ach Brito & Cª S.A./ Claus Porto, Cerveja Nortada, Tram Museum, Transports and Communications Museum, the Museum of Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto and Peninsular-Papelaria e Artes Gráficas.

Industrial Tourism has been asserting itself on a European and Portuguese scale, in line with the Tourism Strategy 2027, contributing to the promotion of a one-of-a-kind tourism offer in the national and international markets, throughout the year. It arises from activities carried out in places of living industry or industrial heritage, associated with products and production processes and highlighting memories and their historical and cultural past.

In Porto, Industrial Tourism has been gaining relevance, as a city with an ancestral commercial essence, especially since the 19th century, and which has also asserted itself for its entrepreneurial and innovative side, characteristics that it maintains to the present day and that show its industrial nature.
