Another edition of the competition for the Best Of Wine Tourism Awards is underway, an initiative developed since 2003 by the Great Wine Capitals Global Network - International Network of Great Wine Capitals, in which the Municipality of Porto represents the regions of Douro Wines, Porto and Vinhos Verdes. Applications must be submitted by July 31.

Entities that promote wine tourism activities in the Douro, Porto and Vinhos Verdes regions may apply for these awards in seven different categories: Accommodation, Architecture and Landscape, Art and Culture, Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences, Sustainable Wine Tourism Practices, Wine Restaurants and Wine Tourism Services. Wine tourism services that stand out for the excellence of their facilities, quality of the welcome, originality and innovation of their offer, in each of these categories, will be awarded.

In a second phase, the winner of each category enters the international competition, and is a candidate for a global prize, awarded by a jury composed of representatives of the member cities/regions of this network: Adelaide-South Australia (Australia), Bilbao-Rioja (Spain), Bordeaux (France), Cape Town-Cape Winelands (South Africa), Hawke's Bay (New Zealand), Lausanne (Switzerland), Mainz-Rheinhessen (Germany), Mendoza (Argentina), Porto (Portugal), S. Francisco-Napa Valley (USA), Valparaiso-Casablanca Valley (Chile) and Verona (Italy). Francisco-Napa Valley (USA), Valparaíso-Casablanca Valley (Chile) and Verona (Italy).

Finally, the People's Choice Award will take place, so that the public, through an online platform, can also vote for their favorite.

The competition is an opportunity for entities to promote and communicate their brand in the tourism and wine sectors, through the media attention given to the competition and its winners. The winners of the competition also benefit from the possibility of joining the global wine tourism network and benefit from the sharing of experiences and best practices in the field.
