The seven winners of the Best Of Wine Tourism 2021 awards in the Douro / Porto and Vinhos Verde regions were now unveiled. Promoted by the Great Wine Capitals Global Network, the competition revealed the winners in several categories, which include accommodation, restaurants, services or innovative experiences.


The objective of the initiative is to reward businesses that provide wine tourism services in each of the member regions of the Great Wine Capitals Global Network, in terms of the excellence of their facilities and services, in different categories.


Taking into account criteria such as the quality of services and facilities, innovation and originality of the offer, and the impact on the development of wine tourism and the region where they operate, the jury, after evaluating the entries, selected the following winners in this first phase of the contest:


- Accommodation: Monverde Wine Experience Hotel

- Architecture & Landscape: Quinta do Crasto

- Art & Culture: Casa de Mateus 

- Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences: Quinta da Pacheca 

- Wine Tourism Restaurants: Casa dos Ecos, by Pedro Lemos and Restaurante Barão Fladgate 

- Wine Tourism Services: Quinta do Vallado 


Now, in a second phase, it remains to be known the global winner, among these categories, which will be determined by an international jury made up of representatives from all member cities / regions of this network: Adelaide (Australia); Bilbao-Rioja (Spain); Bordeaux (France); Cape Town and Cape Winelands (South Africa); Lausanne (Switzerland); Mainz-Rheinhessen (Germany); Mendoza (Argentina); Porto (Portugal); San Francisco-Napa Valley (USA); Valparaíso-Casablanca Valley (Chile); and Verona (Italy).


In Porto, it is up to the Municipality to officially represent the city and its regions, via Associação de Turismo do Porto, which develops all the activities/events regarding this project.


This Network, made up of cities recognised worldwide for their wines and wine regions, aims to promote wine tourism in these areas, encouraging economic, academic and cultural development in their community, through joint projects and exchanges.
