Concerts mark in Aliados the end of summer

“Orquestra Barroca Casa da Música” and “Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto” give two open-air concerts in Avenida dos Aliados on September 6th and 7th, under the pretext of saying goodbye to summer.

Named “Orquestra no Património”, this mini-series is a joint organisation of Casa da Música Foundation and Porto City Hall and starts on Friday evening, September 6th, with the “Orquestra Barroca” going on stage at 10 pm.

Led by conductor Dmitry Sinkovsky, also a violinist and countertenor, the concert begins with a Rebel’s dance symphony, a style invented by this French Baroque composer who was a prominent figure in the courts of Louis XIV and Louis XV. The festive atmosphere is evident in Händel's Water Music which was written to accompany the Royal British Entourage on an excursion across the River Thames, followed by the contagious melodies by Vivaldi.

The next day, also at 10 pm, in the limelight is “Orquestra Sinfónica” and the direction of Baldur Brönnimann. The concert has dance music as the main guest, in various forms and from different geographical origins. The use of tambourines, cymbals and triangle at the Roman Carnival by Berlioz will give the atmosphere of a popular party, while Ponchielli will transport the audience to an elegant ball where a waltz goes through varied ambiences.

From across the ocean will come the music by the most famous bandoneonist in history and a major figure of Argentine music, Astor Piazzolla, as well as the score by Mason Bates that merges innovative orchestral writing with the beats of electronic and techno music.
