  • Work created by Salvador Carvão da Silva d'Eça Barata-Feyo and inaugurated in June 1966. The monument comprises a high pedestal of pare granite and shows the crown and the inscription of King João VI in the main front. Over this pedestal, the cast-brass metallic statue represents King João VI on horseback. As if in movement, the King holds the reins with his left hand and in the right one he holds a globe, probably as a symbol of the imperial dignity achieved in 1816 resulting in the creation of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarve. It is made up of a replica of the statue that Portugal offered to the city of Rio de Janeiro at the time of its 4th centenary.
