Come rain or shine, the city of Porto is ready for those who want to run in the city. City running is an increasingly common activity all over the country and, we daresay, all over the world, and the Invicta city has not escaped this trend.

Running has many advantages: it doesn't just allow us to keep in shape, in the fresh air, without any additional expenses, but also lets us discover the city. If you are used to taking exercise, make sure you go for a run on your next visit to Porto. Incorporate this activity into your holiday and discover Porto through running, but at your own pace.

We continue with some advice given by the online news site Porto 24, which asked its fans on social networks about the best places in Porto to go for a run, a challenge to which these fans responded quickly and eagerly and whose suggestions we combine with ours, proving that “running is in fashion”. Get ready, put on your best running shoes, put on some good music and come with us.

Praia de Leça

Praia de Leça da Palmeira was considered by readers of the online news site Porto 24 one of the best places to run in the greater Porto area. The promenade on this beach will challenge you to push yourself further.

Parque da Cidade

The largest green space in Porto and the biggest urban park in the country, it covers 83 hectares that extend to the Atlantic Ocean through trees and a series of paths that delight lovers of outdoor pursuits. The clay floor is a “flamboyant” way to do a few kilometres walking, running or by bicycle. It has facilities for rest breaks and support, including changing rooms and drinking fountains.

Avenida da Boavista

Try out running along this avenue, one of the busiest in the city, at the start of the day, before it gets too hectic. There are more than 5km of ups and downs that will get you in shape.

Quinta do Covelo

A large space of more than 8 hectares, tree lined, this former farm is great for walking, jogging or cycling. Several running tracks and leisure and recreation areas occupy the 90 hectares of vegetation that make up Quinta do Covelo.

Parque de São Roque

More than 4 hectares in size, this is the newest leisure and sports area in Porto. With dense woodland and several support facilities, this park awaits your visit.

Parque Oriental

Opened in June 2010, Parque Oriental boasts an area of more than 10 hectares of green spaces and has served the population with them, having noted in recent times a considerable increase in athletes using it.

From Ribeira to Foz

This is one of the most beautiful running routes that you can experience in the city of Porto. With the Douro river as a backdrop, following it up to where it joins the sea, you will discover an enchanting landscape.

Jardins do Palácio de Cristal

The Romantic Crystal Palace Gardens occupy an area of 8 hectares in the centre of Porto and are a great place for walking. When you are here, you will be able to enjoy not only the company of the peacocks that roam around here, but also the magnificent views over the river and the city.
