In 2018, the port of Leixões broke again the record of cruises and passengers as it welcomed 101 ships, about 117 thousand tourists and 57 thousand crew members. These figures represent a growth of 1% in the number of vessels and 22% in passengers compared to 2017.

For the next year, the Administração dos Portos do Douro, Leixões e Viana do Castelo-APDL (port authority) maintains their expectations high, with 110 port of calls for cruise ships already scheduled, 14 of which are maiden calls. These calls will bring about 125.000 tourists to the region of Porto and Northern Portugal.

The size of the ships to call in the Cruise Terminal has also been increasing. This year, 26 ships with more than 250 meters arrived in Leixões. Already in September, this port welcomed the new Mein Schiff 1, the largest ship ever to dock at the Cruise Terminal, almost 316 meters long.

In the top 3 nationalities to visit the northern region of Portugal are the English, the Germans and the North-Americans. It is also expected that tourists arriving in Porto through the Cruise Terminal represent an estimated revenue of around 9 million euros.
