Porto was appointed for a two-year term as the chair of the Eurocities Environment Forum. The nomination was presented at the end of September and the election took place at the meeting of this Forum which took place in Tampere, Finland, between October 17 and 19.

During the last two years, Porto was the deputy chair of that Forum under Amsterdam’s chair. Now the challenge is growing, by being recognised Porto’s strong commitment regarding the environment, under the jurisdiction of Filipe Araújo, deputy mayor and councillor for Innovation and Environment.

Porto has been a member of the Eurocities network since 1990 and hosted the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in 2003, the Social Affairs Working Group Meeting at the end of 2014 and the Environment Forum Meeting in 2015.

Founded in 1986, the Eurocities network currently comprises 140 cities in over 30 countries and aims to stimulate the exchange of best practices and represent the interests of large cities within the EU Community institutions, promoting the urban demands’ inclusion in EU policies.
